Found in every province except Nunavut and the Yukon, the aptly named leopard frog is a regular in the aquatic world. Named for the irregular black dots on its back, the leopard frog has typically green, greenish-brown or brown skin. It lives in a variety of habitats depending on the season, most often wetlands and woodlands in the summer; ponds, streams and rivers that do not freeze to the bottom in the fall and ponds and marshes in the spring for breeding. The leopard frog will eat pretty much anything that fits in its mouth including insects, worms, smaller frogs, small birds or even garter snakes. However, the leopard frog is fair game for larger fish, water snakes, turtles, herons, larger frogs or even raccoons.

The freshwater perennial lily pad is a remarkable plant. Nine species are native to Canada, including the widespread yellow pond lily. They are often surrounded with large yellow fragrant blossoms that open in the morning and close in the afternoon. Its long, thin stalk anchors it to the lake-bed. Above the water line, the buoyant green leaves form a resting place for frogs, beetles, small turtles and dragonflies. And below the surface reveals a plethora of wildlife vieing for shelter and making these plants an integral part of aquatic ecosystem. They are the veritable "tree of the water-scape".

The obverse of the coin features the standard Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II D.G. Regina".

The reverse was designed by Canadian artist Maurice Gervais and features an engraved and painted Yellow Pond Lily (Nuphar variegatum) that occupies the left side. The lily is in full bloom and it's outer cup shaped petals are open to reveal the the circular pattern inside. A beautiful translucent-green frog made of hand crafted Venetian glass by Guiliano Donaggio - a master glassmaker in Murano, Italy - graces the lily pad, ready and posed to pounce, on the right side of the image. The design is circled by the words "20 Dollars 2014 Canada" and the artist's initials.

This beautiful proof coin is the fourth in a much sought after series that features hand-crafted Venetian glass creatures. Made from 1 oz of 9999 pure silver. This release is limited to a worldwide mintage of only 12,500! It makes the perfect gift for both wildlife and silver collectors alike.

This coin comes encapsulated and encased in a maroon clamshell case with a serialized certificate of authenticity.
